I was also raised in a Christian church (Mormon, to be exact). I felt disillusioned when the words of Christ were simply ignored by the organization. I went through an Atheist period (and at times I still consider myself an Atheist) but I eventually came across I Am That by Nisargadatta and was inspired by Advaita Vedanta. With my religious upbringing I try to find the true meaning of Christ's words and not just what the churches tell us and I wanted to ask if you have ever heard of the concept of e-prime. It's a "prescriptive version of the English language that excludes all forms of the verb 'to be'." (definition from Wikipedia). Through my ponderings I came to the conclusion that the commandment - Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain- is a reference to our misuse of the verb 'to be'. It's surprising how beneficial e-prime has shown to be in Psychotherapy (as referenced in the same Wikipedia article). What adds credence to the word 'be' being God's name is Moses' revelation that the lord's name is "I am that I am" which you hinted at in your commencement speech.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25149653.post-9748042565521056012014-06-05T07:51:09.872-06:002014-06-05T07:51:09.872-06:00For a transcription of Daniel's talk, go to
